How do you do, everyone? It is I—the nameless lady. I am so very grateful to meet you all again.
Ahem, anyway. I successfully managed to publish a second volume of Proud to Be the Villainess!
I initially wrote this story as a single-volume work, with the idea of a young lady forcing herself to become a villainess as its base concept. The subtitle of the previous volume (“If My Doom Can Be Her Happily Ever After, So Be It!”) expressed Wellmy’s conviction. Her beliefs haven’t changed in this volume either; for the sake of her sister, she deceives others and purposefully makes herself seem like the villainess on many occasions.
However.
When I was writing this volume, my bad habit struck again. You see, the moment an interesting idea crosses my mind, I start writing it without taking into account whether I can pull it off or not. And so, the concept of this volume became: the story of three villainesses and five villains.

It all stemmed from me thinking, “Wouldn’t it be interesting to have three different types of villainesses in the same book?” One is the daughter of a duke, who was pretty much set to marry the crown prince until the main character stole her place. The other is the daughter of a baron who uses her holy powers as a saint to seduce young lords and build her own harem. Both are pretty classic villainess archetypes, aren’t they?
And so, I decided to add these two to the cast and have the three villainesses appear together in this story.

It would have been fine if I’d stopped there.
But I didn’t.
I had this idea of adding Wellmy stealing other ladies’ love interests-slash-fiancés to the usual “villainess with her harem of minions” trope, so I did. As for what happened when Wellmy got her “harem”... Well, you can read that for yourself in the story.
I had the crazy idea to add over seven characters, each with their own stories, all while maintaining the relationships I’d built in volume 1.

I wrote an incredibly tangled timeline and motives that clashed and intersected, but had to keep everything as clear as possible. Even with all my shiny new ideas, I had to make sure that it remained Wellmy’s story, not someone else’s.
Seriously, I’m impressed I managed to fit everything in four hundred pages. I’m so relieved I managed to get this volume ready for you all.
Something else I want to discuss with you all is the question of “Is it bad to make mistakes?”
In the first volume, Wellmy’s objective was just, even if her methods weren’t. If she could be forgiven for her mistakes, then I believe others should be as well. My stance on the matter is that if your blunder only caused a minor inconvenience, you deserve a chance to start anew.

Anywho, let’s talk about this volume’s subtitle for a bit, shall we?
“Upon the Despair You Face Blooms the Wicked Flower of Hope.”

Who faces despair? And what kind of hope do they receive?
I hope those of you who have already read the book are satisfied with the conclusion.
Anywho! Once again, Kuga Huna-sensei came up with some absolutely incredible character designs and illustrations! They’re all so good! Theresalo is adorable, and that “certain pierrot” looks amazing!
But above all... Lady Hildentrai Ether!!!
I fell in love at first sight with her illustration. So for that reason, I want to give her more appearances in the future.
The manga version of Proud to Be the Villainess has been progressing steadily as well, and is set to begin serialization on the fifteenth of this month. Every time I read Stellagi Suzuka-sensei’s incredible manuscripts, I’m in awe and feel the need to prostrate myself before her. Her Wellmy is a different flavor from Huna-sensei’s cute yet refined Wellmy; Stellagi Suzuka-sensei captures her sharpness and darkness with incredible talent. It’s the best! Please look forward to the manga too!
