How do you do, everyone? It is I—the nameless lady. I am so very grateful to meet you all again. The last time we saw each other was on the cover flap, was it not?
Ahem. I tried to sound ladylike and all, but I’m a dude, so...yeah.
Sorry about that, everyone. I got carried away because of my pen name. As it is our first meeting, allow me to quickly explain the origin of it.
It all started when I thought, “If I’m going to write fantasy romance novels, I might need a new pen name.” And so, I went for a combination of “Jane Doe,” the name given to unidentified female bodies, and “Mary Sue,” the term for a female character who is just too perfect.
That’s a bit...gruesome, isn’t it? Who in the world came up with that pen name?! (You did, you moron.)

Anyway, allow me to introduce myself properly: Hello everyone, I’m Mary=Doe.
Villainess stories really are great, aren’t they? There are many different types of villainesses in this world—some are innocent and were just falsely accused of crimes they didn’t commit, while others are truly wicked. I was inspired by these works, and that’s how Wellmy-chan’s story was born.

Most “villainesses” in those stories tend to be quite similar to Iora-san. They’re kind and talented, but really unlucky. Then, they move into a new environment, which allows them to find their true selves. They’re a bit like Cinderella, in a way.
These types of stories are wonderful, but they had me thinking: If the main character were to cast herself as the villainess, what kind of story would it become?
Wellmy-chan is, on the surface, a true villainess. She has throngs of followers waiting upon her, is pretty but has a terrible reputation, steals her sister’s fiancé, and even goes as far as to chase her out of her home. She’s the very definition of a “villainess,” but she has chosen that path for herself.
Why, you might ask? Well, if you’ve read the story, you already know the answer. And for those who haven’t, please continue to watch warmly over her journey.

Anyway, this is it for the presentation of the story.
Sorry for the abrupt change of topics, but aren’t Kuga Huna-sensei’s illustrations absolutely incredible? Aren’t they absolutely incredible? (It’s important, so I said it twice.)
The cover, the frontispiece, the illustrations inside the book... Seeing them made me revert to just being an otaku. They’re so gorgeous that I nearly ascended to heaven! Every morning, I wake up and prostrate myself in gratitude for having such magnificent embellishments adorning my story. Everyone, please make sure to appreciate those wonderful illustrations when you read my story!
This series will also be getting a manga adaptation on Manga UP, drawn by Stellagi Suzuka-sensei. Stellagi-sensei’s work is just as incredible as that of Kuga-sensei. When I learned about the manga adaptation, I couldn’t help but yell, “W-W-Will such an amazing artist really be in charge of adapting a series I wrote?!”

Now, let’s talk about myself for a bit.
