Chapter 55: The Reason for Saioji's Visit
“Phew... As expected, Akira does excellent work.”
The one who made that remark while savoring the aroma of freshly brewed coffee pouring from a household coffee maker was Saioji, looking completely relaxed. Somehow, the usual tension that always seemed to surround her had softened.
In one room of my newly purchased house—which was still sparsely furnished—a large coffee maker, specially selected by Saioji and procured through Akira, sat prominently alongside a massive portable power station used to operate it.
In addition, chairs, tables, and other furnishings from manufacturers I had never even heard of were gathered at incredible speed through the Saioji Group. One of the several rooms in the house now looked as though it had been completely occupied by Saioji herself.
“Sorry to interrupt your relaxation, but... what exactly is all this?” I asked.

Because it was a direct request from Saioji, the attitude of Akira—who had originally been one of her attendants—as well as various other people connected to us in Japan, changed immediately.
But I didn't want anyone to misunderstand. Akira and all the people I regularly consulted with were good people. They always took my requests seriously and prioritized helping me whenever possible.

The issue was simply that the request this time was from Saioji Shizuku. The moment her request was announced, a competition broke out over who would get the honor of handling it.
Saioji's requests were numerous. The first involved luxury furniture such as the chair, table, and cup she was currently using. These weren't items available for public sale—they were special pieces prepared exclusively for investors and shareholders by the furniture company.
Just obtaining them would normally require considerable time and effort, yet the team assigned to fulfill the request somehow managed to do so on the very same day. Before I knew it, enormous pieces of furniture had appeared inside the spare room that housed the Moon Gate.
They were so large that a standard Moon Gate could not transport them. A larger-than-normal gate had to be constructed just to move them. However, as compensation for that cooperation, a substantial sum of money had been deposited into my account.

That part, at least, I could view as business. What I wasn't sure how to deal with was Saioji herself, elegantly enjoying coffee inside my house.
“You haven't prepared a bed yet, have you? I recommend this bedding.”
“Well, it certainly looks comfortable...”
The portable power station and coffee maker would apparently be taken back by Saioji afterward, but she had also transported bedding and other furnishings.

Wait... don't tell me she's planning to live here?
“As if I'd move into your house like some wife forcing her way in,” she replied. “Think of it as a housewarming gift. The house isn't brand-new, but it's still a new home.”

“As long as that's not the case...”
Meanwhile, Saioji planned to take a separate futon back with her. Bringing a massive bed into the team house would be impossible, so she intended to focus on carrying back smaller items she had prepared elsewhere.
In other words, the coffee maker and giant portable power supply she had brought over would remain behind as part of my housewarming present.
“But I don't even drink coffee.”
“You might need to get used to it. Still, I recommend it. Just don't drink too much.”
With practiced movements, Saioji operated the coffee maker and brewed a cup for me as well. Since the weather had been getting colder lately, a warm drink was welcome.

“Oh... this is surprisingly good.”
“Right? The quality of the beans probably helps. But it's common for people to discover they enjoy coffee once they're adults. Your tastes change.”
I wouldn't call myself childish when it came to food, but I had never cared much for bitter flavors.
On the other hand, I liked alcohol, so perhaps I had simply convinced myself that I disliked coffee's distinctive aroma. Yet after actually trying it, it tasted surprisingly good. Maybe it was because I wasn't Shinjo Masato anymore, but Allen, with a completely different body.
As I relaxed with that thought and let out a sigh of contentment, Saioji, who was cleaning up the coffee maker, suddenly spoke.
“By the way... that elf who was being sold at the Royal Capital Black Market...”

She paused briefly.
“...Was it you who bought her?”

Saioji delivered the sharp question as casually as if she were merely continuing an ordinary conversation.
