Chapter 39: Blood of God (Ichor)
In Asphial, the highest-tier potion is said to be a vivid crimson liquid that looks almost exactly like blood.
Potions of this color are known as impossible relics—artifacts so advanced that they cannot be reproduced even in the modern era. According to a dubious rumor, the finest of these red potions has been passed down through generations of the Cainliese royal family, rulers of the kingdom.
The crimson potion, spoken of almost as a legend, is nicknamed “Blood of God” due to its brilliant color and overwhelming effects. Unlike ordinary potions, it is said not to deteriorate with age and remains usable no matter how many years pass.
Once every few years, one may reportedly be discovered deep within an unconquered high-difficulty dungeon. The potion’s mythical reputation is so great that some people become adventurers solely in hopes of finding one.
Its most famous effect is True Resurrection.

There are also claims that it grants immortality, though most red potions found in dungeons are classified only as second- or third-grade specimens. Because of this, they lack the legendary abilities such as reviving the dead or granting eternal life.
Even so, their effects are extraordinary. They are said to instantly heal wounds so severe that even healing magic cannot.

...Though apparently, by the time someone suffers an injury that healing magic cannot fix, they usually die before they ever get the chance to drink a potion.
There is another clear distinction between a red potion and the purple potion, one grade below it.
Rejuvenation.
It is said that just a single vial can make a person five years younger than their actual age. Before I was born, powerful figures throughout Asphial supposedly searched ancient dungeons in a frenzy for these red potions.

One ruler who monopolized the potions and used them all on himself reportedly lived to around 150 years of age.
A truly legendary item, the final treasure sought by those consumed by power and desire.
“...No way, right?”
What I had produced this time, after throwing in every remaining Magic Rose and experimenting extensively, was not a bright red liquid. It was pitch black.

When held up to the light, it could vaguely appear red or purple, but only barely. At the very least, nobody who saw it would call it a red potion.
“But this power... it’s obviously different from a purple potion, too.”

Just trying to touch it made the tips of my fingers sting. The closest comparison would be the peculiar sensation caused by the evaporative cooling of highly concentrated alcohol on bare skin.
“It’s not evaporating either... I have no idea what this stuff is.”
From fifty Magic Roses, I had managed to extract only a few drops. I should have been able to produce a whole liter of purple potion, yet somehow I had obtained something completely unknown.
At the very least, I knew it was not something I could casually tell other people about.
Using a dropper, I transferred the reddish-purple potion (provisional name) from a microscope slide into a tiny container. I never imagined that the science experiment kit I had prepared on a whim for potion-making would turn out to be useful.
“Still... where am I supposed to hide this thing?”

Hiding something this dangerous on either Asphial or Earth could become a major problem if somebody found it.
It might not be the legendary red potion, but it definitely felt like something far beyond the purple potion that Mei had created.
“Maybe I should bury it in uncharted territory...”
Fortunately, I possessed a power perfectly suited for hiding things. I planned to find a random world where civilization had not yet developed and bury the troublesome substance there. That way, nobody would even know its value.
With that in mind, I selected a world at random and opened the Moon Gate.
Beyond the white mist of the gate stretched a world of nothing but reddish-brown earth. A barren wasteland with not even a trace of vegetation.

At the very least, I always chose destinations where people could survive, so breathing posed no problem. It was a little chilly, but nothing unbearable.
“...Huh?”

The moment I stepped into the nameless world, a piercing cold wind swept across my body.
Unlike Asphial or Earth, this place was clearly a far harsher environment.
I should bury it and leave as quickly as possible...
Thinking that, I turned around—and froze.

Behind me stood a gigantic pillar that seemed to pierce the heavens. It glittered brilliantly in the light of a sun-like star hanging low across the sky. This immense pillar was not some strange natural phenomenon unique to the world. It had physical mass.
“...A space elevator.”
The structure stretched through the darkened upper atmosphere and continued into space. At its summit floated a colossal spacecraft large enough to cover the sky itself.
“...Let’s go home.”

Apparently, I had stumbled into a place that was far more dangerous than expected.
Afterward, I eventually found a world where civilization had never developed—a place resembling a real-life Jurassic Park, still short of even a true prehistoric age.

There, in an unremarkable location with no landmarks whatsoever, I buried the reddish-purple potion (provisional name).
...Little did I know that one day I would return to both of those worlds.
