Chapter 31: Kingdom Most Powerful Otaku Girl
“Wonsta” was apparently the abbreviated name for a female-oriented smartphone game called Project Wonder Stage, which became popular in Japan after my death.
The game revolved around raising various types of handsome boys and guiding them toward becoming top idols. Princess Chris—or rather, in her previous life, a woman named Sakakibara Yui—was a huge fan of Wonsta. Back then, she was apparently so devoted to the game that she would even cut back on her personal expenses to spend money on it.
...And it seemed that I looked exactly like one of the game's characters, a man named Hakuba Issei.
“You don't just look alike! You're his reincarnation, his reincarnation!! You're just as tall as Hakuba-kun from the basketball club, and even that low baritone voice of yours is identical!!”
The girl excitedly shouting at ear-splitting volume was impossible to reconcile with the cool, beautiful girl who had been glaring at me up until moments ago.

Princess Chris—though I'll call her Sakakibara here—said that Hakuba Issei belonged to her favorite unit in Wonsta.
“I-I see...”

Overwhelmed by her enthusiasm, I instinctively leaned back, but every inch I retreated, Sakakibara closed the gap.
We were seated side by side on a large sofa, our faces close together. To an outside observer, it might have looked as though we were enjoying a romantic rendezvous. In reality, I was simply being aggressively pursued by a woman in a state of confusion
But this woman also happened to possess the most noble bloodline in the kingdom.
The heavy pressure rumbling behind her like a distant earthquake—was that incredible something leaking out from her excitement actually her magical power?

“Coming to this world so suddenly was tough, but just meeting Hakuba-kyun makes it all worth it!! I'm so glad I got transported here!!”
At a glance, she looked as cool and composed as Saioji, yet for some reason, her words and actions made me feel utterly betrayed by that appearance.
Panting heavily, cheeks flushed red, wiggling her fingers in a disturbingly eager manner... What would Rey think if he saw her now?
“W-Wait! I'm not this Hakuba-kyun person, and more importantly, you're a princess! It'd be a huge problem if you were alone in a room like this with a strange man!”

“No need to worry! I'm a princess of this kingdom. Any rumors can easily be suppressed!”
Grab!

She seized both my hands.
I tried to pull free, but my arms wouldn't budge even a millimeter. Her grip itself wasn't strong, yet Sakakibara possessed monstrous strength far beyond mine and easily pinned me to the sofa.
“This isn't funny anymore!”
No matter how cute she was—easily on Saioji's level—I absolutely refused to end up in that kind of situation.
I shouted for help, but nobody responded. Even her earlier vulgar screaming had drawn no reaction, so the room was evidently well soundproofed.
“I may not have any experience, including from my previous life, but I've studied thoroughly! Now then, if you just count the stains on the ceiling, it'll all be over soon, so please stop resisting!”

Her excitement seemed to have reached its peak.
The arms she'd only been gently restraining were now forced above my head, leaving my upper body completely exposed.
How could such skinny arms have so much strength?!
While I cursed internally, she finally mounted me, and just as it seemed she was about to tear off my clothes—
Clack.
“...”

“Ah.”
“Ah.”

Perhaps my resistance had finally paid off.
Camille, who had gone outside to get some air, returned and opened the door to the reception room. She seemed a little calmer than before, but still somewhat dazed.
The first thing she saw upon entering was the princess pinning me down on the sofa. The positions might have been reversed from the usual expectation, but to any outsider, it looked like the setup for something scandalous.
As Camille stared blankly at the scene, Sakakibara and I simultaneously came back to our senses.

“Kyaou...”
Unable to process what she was seeing, Camille's eyes rolled upward. Letting out an adorable little sound, she collapsed on the spot.
Though Camille hadn't been much help during the meeting itself, she had just saved me from the greatest crisis of my life in Asphial. I silently thanked my earlier decision to bring her along, even if I'd practically tricked her into coming.
Maybe I'll buy Volume 4 of Yume-Koi tomorrow...

With the unconscious Camille's head resting on my lap, I gently combed my fingers through her silky light-blue hair.
Had she not barged in when she did, I'd probably be the victim sitting opposite the girl now kneeling formally on the other sofa.

“To think that even I... would have my reason evaporate in front of my idol character... What have I done...?”
Spreading her trembling hands before her, she looked utterly unable to believe her own actions.
What does 'my reason evaporated' even mean...?
Having regained her senses, Sakakibara still spoke in that oddly relaxed way that contrasted so sharply with her icy appearance. Perhaps this was her true personality all along.
“...Sakakibara, are you reincarnated? Or a transported?”
I asked directly. If she kept wallowing in self-reproach, Camille might wake up before we learned anything useful.

“In my case, it's probably possession. When I was a second-year university student, I suddenly got thrown into this world during lunch break. After that, my consciousness merged with that of the original owner of this body, and my current personality was formed.”
“Possession, huh. That's a new one to me.”
“At least there weren't any awakened individuals around me, so I don't really know the details. Honestly, this is my first time even meeting someone from the same homeland.”
Reincarnated people generally existed at a rate of maybe one or two per city-sized region. Under normal circumstances, you'd almost never encounter one. In fact, most people could live their entire lives without meeting another.
There was another reason as well. Sakakibara belonged to the royal family, the most noble bloodline in the kingdom. Even if she wasn't part of the main line of succession, that was still worlds apart from a minor noble family. The number of people she'd interacted with throughout her life was naturally limited. It wasn't surprising that she'd never met another reincarnated or transported person before.
As for me, I hadn't met Saioji until I was already twenty.

“I've lived in this world for nearly twenty years too, but I've hardly ever met anyone from the same homeland. If we're specifically talking about fellow Japanese people, the odds are extremely low.”
I decided not to mention Saioji.

Sakakibara might become a powerful ally if I told her, but there was always the possibility of things going wrong. Instead, I shared the common knowledge I knew regarding reincarnated people.
Afterward, Sakakibara told me about noble society and everything she'd experienced in this world.
“You know, people from other worlds tend to have ridiculously high facial attractiveness, so I inevitably get nervous around them... It's not like I'm socially anxious or anything, but my younger sisters do treat me like a weirdo.”
“...I see.”

“Ehehe.”
I nodded along as she continued speaking in her usual absentminded tone.
A person who was supposedly nervous around others normally wouldn't get within one step of assaulting someone. If the people around her considered her strange, then perhaps it wasn't because she was a reincarnate or transmigrant. Maybe Sakakibara simply possessed a uniquely peculiar personality all her own.
