Chapter 27: Enfive Magic Academy
“Wow... so this is Einfive Magic Academy.”
“I saw it from afar a few times when I was a student, but seeing it up close really is incredible.”
While listening to stories from Camille's school days, we followed the well-maintained pathways of the Academic District until we finally reached our destination: Einfive Magic Academy.
Before us stood an enormous gate. A guardhouse had been built beside it, and thick iron doors protected the academy grounds. However, the academy itself was the truly overwhelming sight. Compared to the already-impressive Sandrique Cathedral, Enfive seemed to operate on an entirely different scale.
Buildings in the world of Asphial were often surprisingly massive despite the level of technology available. The royal castle was perhaps the greatest example, a structure that felt possible only because this was a fantasy world.

If I had to describe Einfive's architecture in a single sentence, it resembled the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. Not in terms of modern design, but in overall shape: a huge rectangular main structure with two pairs of tower-like wings extending upward.
“Looks like we made it in somehow...”

“I still can't believe they even let me enter. Those Enfive Promicas are amazing.”
After passing through luggage inspection inside a spacious two-story guardhouse, visitors weren't immediately allowed onto campus. Instead, they were required to wear a magical device resembling a bracelet on their right wrist. Apparently, if someone caused trouble within the academy grounds, the device would react and alert security personnel. In other words, it functioned a bit like a tracking beacon.
“It's incredible. Liothal is nothing like this.”
“Is it really that different?”

“Absolutely. Even Liothal's largest building is smaller than Einfive's student dormitory.”

I found myself doubting her at first, but surrounding the main building were countless additional facilities, all spread across an enormous campus.
“That's Lion Dormitory. Anyone from the Academic District knows about it.”

Following Camille's pointing finger, I saw a mansion larger than the headquarters of the Dawnmoon Brigade. A red flag bearing the profile of a lion hung proudly from the elegant building.
“...That's a dormitory?”

Had Camille not told me beforehand, I would have assumed it was a guest residence reserved for royalty or high nobility.
“Lion Dormitory is said to be where the current King of Cainliese lived during his student years. It's also rumored that the First Princess is living there even now.”
“You know a lot about this kind of thing.”
“Well, information is life for adventurers. If you're not aware of current events, you'll end up dead.”
According to Camille, adventurers needed to stay informed about politics, regional affairs, and even the personalities of local rulers.
“In some cities, gathering multiple mages in one place is actually illegal. Not in Cainliese, but there are places where simply being a mage is enough to make you a criminal.”

Like a witch hunt?
Apparently, some mages possessed frightening abilities, such as mind-control magic or spells that created infectious poisons. Although such magic was officially prohibited, there were still rare individuals who secretly learned it. As a result, some rulers feared mages deeply.
In certain territories, mages could be denied entry or even prosecuted simply for being mages.
The discussion had taken on a rather gloomy tone, creating an awkward silence between us. Even so, we continued walking steadily toward our destination.
Perhaps wanting to change the mood, Camille started a new conversation.
“So, what kind of person are we meeting today?”

“Someone named Rey Castiano. He's the heir of House Castiano. He visited my stall during the last market festival and invited me afterward.”
As we passed Lion Dormitory, Camille asked the reason we'd come all the way to Einfive. At this point, there shouldn't have been any issue telling her.

I'd already sent a letter to the other side, so although no specific time had been arranged, we should definitely be able to meet.

A pleasant breeze brushed against our skin. For a moment, the wind stopped. And at that exact moment, Camille spun around and attempted to flee like a startled rabbit.

Despite being a mage, Camille displayed incredible explosiveness and speed.
Unfortunately for her, I possessed reincarnation cheat-level physical abilities and ranked among the strongest people in this world physically. I caught up to her in an instant, seized her slender arm firmly, and prevented her escape.
“Castiano is one of the Three Great Noble Houses of Magic! If an ordinary commoner mage like me goes to meet their heir and accidentally does something disrespectful, I'll be executed!”
“You're overthinking it, Camille!”

The two of us yelling back and forth looked remarkably similar to a lovers' quarrel. But if Camille got away, I'd have to meet the noble by myself. There was no way I could let her escape.
“I've been tricked! I'm absolutely not going!”
“You don't even have an Enfive Promica! If you're wandering around the academy alone, you'll get arrested!”
Our argument continued until curious students around the academy started gathering to see what all the commotion was about.
