Chapter 26: The Royal Capital Academic District
The Northern District of the royal capital, Leinburg, was an academic district where promising young people gathered. Numerous massive institutions of learning, comparable to universities, stood there. In addition to these schools, the district also contained many state-operated research facilities staffed by the geniuses that Cainliese was so proud of.
Although technically just one district of the city, its size and economic scale easily surpassed that of Erakton. Surrounded by enormous waterways, it had effectively become a city within the royal capital itself.
“...Fantasy worlds really are amazing.”
“Hm? Did you say something?”
After picking up the fruit tart that Akira had recommended and reserved for me, I returned home to where the Moon Gate was located and crossed worlds, arriving in the Northern District of Royal Capital Leinburg.

My companion was Camille, a graduate of one of the academies located within this district.
“The Northern District is the largest area in the capital. Even so, there's still not enough space, so medicinal herbs used for research are cultivated outside the city,” Camille explained.

“It's not enough even though it's this huge?”
The Northern District was separated from both the Eastern and Western Districts by massive waterways, making free travel between them impossible. While many small boats traveled along the canals, the Northern side was blocked by high stone walls that were impossible to climb. You could observe the district from outside, but crossing the waterway to reach the opposite shore was extremely difficult.
There were a total of four ways to enter the Northern District. One was a large checkpoint located on the main avenue leading from the Central District. Two more checkpoints were situated on the bridges connecting the Eastern and Western Districts. Adding the gate that allowed entry from outside the royal capital, there were four entry points altogether.
“The checkpoint on the main road is mostly used by merchants delivering supplies to the schools, so ordinary people usually use either the eastern or western checkpoint.”

The bridges built over the eastern and western checkpoints were not merely practical structures—they were beautiful landmarks resembling the Rialto Bridge[1] that I had once seen on television.
Camille and I were currently at the checkpoint on the western side, waiting several dozen minutes before undergoing an inspection.
“An Enfive and a Liothal Promica Medal... alright, you may pass.”
Neither of us carried much luggage, so the inspection itself was brief.

The guards were initially suspicious of the boxed fruit tart I was carrying, but once I showed both the silver Enfive Promica Medal and the Central District Promica bearing the Castiano family crest, they immediately approved me.
The power of nobility really is something.

After crossing the bridge and entering the Northern District, I found myself in a sea of greenery.
Unlike the other districts, where buildings were packed tightly together, the Northern District featured carefully maintained trees planted at regular intervals. Grass covered the ground beside the roads, and students lounged on the lawns, napping peacefully.
For a moment, I wondered whether this was really part of the royal capital. The cityscape blended harmoniously with nature.
As Camille walked beside me muttering, “This brings back memories,” I knew there was no mistake—we had truly arrived in the Academic District.
As we walked the neatly maintained roads, I listened to Camille explain the area.
“That's Sandrique Cathedral. It's the only religious school in the royal capital.”

“A religious school? What do they study there?”
Not far from the Western entrance, Camille pointed toward a gigantic structure.
True to its name, the cathedral resembled a castle. Built in an ornate Gothic style with intricate carvings, it was a breathtaking monument that looked beautiful from any angle. Since it occupied elevated ground overlooking the surrounding area, its imposing presence was obvious even from a considerable distance.
“People enroll for different reasons, but aside from studying doctrine, they learn medicine and holy magic. Even if someone has the aptitude for healing magic, they still need training to use it properly.”
“I see.”
“Some people enroll specifically because they want to learn medical arts or holy magic. The tuition is expensive, but if they graduate, they never have trouble finding a job.”

According to Camille, students who entered on the religious track paid no tuition. However, after graduating, they were obligated to serve as priests of the Hamata Polytheism, the organization that operated the school. Those entering on the professional track paid significantly higher tuition than at normal magic schools in exchange for studying medical arts and holy magic.
“We even have a holy mage in our brigade. Nana didn't attend here, but I'm pretty sure she graduated from a religious school.”

“Nana? The woman with purple hair?”
“Yeah. Adventurers who can use both holy magic and healing magic are incredibly rare. Other adventuring parties and even nobles are constantly trying to recruit her, so we can never let our guard down.”
Well, that made sense. Any group would want a rare healer. From what I remembered, Nana gave off the impression of a calm and gentle adult woman, but apparently she was quite a famous adventurer.
“So what was the school you graduated from like, Camille?”

“You mean Liothal Magic School? It's just an ordinary lower-tier magic school.”
“Lower-tier? There are different ranks of magic schools?”
“Yep. Liothal Magic School is meant for commoners. Most graduates become adventurers or magical soldiers in regional cities. The Enfive Magic Academy, the one connected to the medal you're carrying, is an upper-tier magic school.”
According to Camille, lower-tier magic schools were designed for ordinary citizens. Tuition was affordable enough for commoners, and students typically studied there for three years beginning around age fifteen. Most graduates became adventurers or provincial military mages. Camille herself had become an adventurer after graduating from Liothal.

“Enfive Magic Academy is where exceptional prodigies and noble children study. Upper-tier magic schools usually start teaching magic from a very young age.”
Graduates of schools like Enfive often became military elites or entered the service of powerful nobles. Because so many noble children attended, these academies also functioned as social networking hubs.

“So it's basically a school for the nation's elite...”
“That's one way to put it.”
Considering that the original owner of my Enfive Promica Medal was the heir to a marquis family, Camille's explanation made perfect sense.
“Lots of people in the capital have Liothal Promica Medals, but Enfive Promicas are incredibly rare. Seriously, how did you get yours?”
“Well...”
Would Camille actually believe me if I explained that the heir of a marquis family had simply walked into my stall and handed it to me?
