Chapter 24: The Gold and Silver Promica Medals
The young noble of the Kingdom, Rey Castiano, had descended upon my stall like a storm. As a result of him buying up every last product I had for sale, my very first business venture ended with a complete sellout.
“...Good thing I hid the books, just in case.”
Beneath the display table at the front of the stall, hidden behind a cloth and out of sight, were several manga volumes I had set aside for Camille and Luca.
Fortunately, I hadn't displayed them. I had assumed nobody would buy them anyway.
Everything else, however—from the chocolates to the trading cards—had been completely bought out by a single boy, leaving the stall looking surprisingly empty.

“And on top of that, he gave me some weird medals. What am I supposed to do with these?”
I flicked a gold-colored medal about the size of a 500-yen coin with my thumb.

Ping.
The medal spun through the air, reflecting the sunlight. It was something Rey had handed me before leaving. Along with the gold medal, he had also given me a silver one of the same size.
“With these, you can come see me whenever you want. Drop by when you find the time.”
Looking thoroughly satisfied after purchasing everything I had on display, Rey had casually placed the two medals on the counter before departing.

Afterward, without even visiting another stall, he left Area 13 altogether. The moment the crowd confirmed his departure, the gathered spectators immediately swarmed around my stall.
“Well, judging from everyone's reaction, they're probably something incredible... these medals.”
Unfortunately, there was nothing left for the newly arrived customers or fellow merchants to buy, but every single person who approached froze when they saw the gold and silver medals in my hand.
Whenever I tried to ask about them, nobody wanted to get too close. And when I pressed for answers, they would blatantly change the subject. That alone told me these things were almost certainly troublesome.

The gold medal bore the image of a set of scales. If my memory was correct, that symbol appeared on the national flag of Cainliese. Beneath the scales, following the edge of the medal, the name Castiano had been engraved.
The silver medal displayed another symbol—a design that looked oddly similar to an upside-down Triforce. I didn't recognize it, but since Rey had given it to me alongside the gold medal, I assumed it served a similar purpose.

“Ah! Everything's sold out!?”
A young woman's voice suddenly rang out, drowning out the surrounding noise.
“Camille, Luca. Welcome.”
“Welcome? There's nothing left!”
Ignoring Luca, Camille hurried over to the stall and carefully inspected every shelf. Seeing every display completely empty, she apparently assumed that the next volume of Yume-Koi, which she had come specifically to buy, had already been sold.
“Don't worry. I saved your copies.”

I hadn't hidden them intentionally at first. It simply hadn't occurred to me to display them.
Since she had gone out of her way to visit, I felt bad teasing her. So I immediately pulled out the books.
“Here you go. Volume 3 of Yume-Koi.”
“Yay!”
Naturally, I also made sure to tell Luca that I'd prepared a copy for her as well.
“Wait... isn't that a Promica Medal?”

“Promica?”
At this point, everything I had brought to the festival was sold out. Since there was no reason to keep the stall open, I decided to close up before nightfall. The festival's busiest hours were still ahead, but with nothing left to sell, I planned to spend the rest of the evening exploring with Camille and Luca.

While dismantling the stall, both of them helped me.
Unlike me, who was still inexperienced at setting up booths, the two veteran adventurers worked efficiently, sorting and packing the materials by type to make returning them far easier.
While helping, Camille happened to notice the mysterious medals. She looked surprised.
“Yeah, those are Promica Medals. They're needed to enter restricted areas in cities and towns. Adventurers have similar ones too.”

Apparently, Promica Medals were something like permits. In modern terms, they resembled tickets or licenses. Owning one allowed a person to enter places normally off-limits.
“For adventurers, the Guild issues them when we're allowed to enter restricted dungeons. Of course, those dungeons are dangerous, so only adventurers approved by the Guild can obtain them.”
With that explanation, Camille produced her own Promica Medal.
“See?”

Her medal was much smaller than mine. It was coin-sized and looked heavily worn.
“This one allows access to Class-II dungeons. I think everyone in the Brigade has one except Allen.”

I had no idea how dangerous a Class-II dungeon actually was, but if special permission was required, it couldn't be a safe place.
Still...
“Then what exactly do these medals grant access to?”
“The gold one has the name Castiano engraved on it, so it's probably for the Central District. The silver one belongs to the Academic District. It's from Enfive Magic Academy.”
“I see.”
The meaning of the gold medal was easy enough to guess, considering it carried the Castiano family name. The silver medal, however, apparently bore the crest of a school located in the Royal Capital's Academic District.

“Come to think of it, didn't you attend a school in the capital, Camille?”
“Yep. I'm a mage, so of course I did. Mine has a different crest, but I have an Academic District Promica too. Look.”
She pulled another medal from her breast pocket.
Unlike the Guild's medal, it was nearly identical in shape and color to the silver medal I had received. Only the crest differed.
“Just having an Academic District Promica lets you enter the North District of the capital. It also grants access to whichever academy matches the crest on your medal. You can't enter other schools, though, so be careful.”
“Got it.”

Simply possessing the silver medal apparently granted unrestricted access to the Academic District in northern Royal Capital. However, each academy required its own corresponding Promica Medal.
In other words, I could freely enter the district itself, and among all the schools there, I specifically had access to Enfive Magic Academy.

“Seriously, that's amazing. I have one because I'm an alumna, but ordinary people can't get either a Gold Promica or a Silver Promica. Even influential figures in the capital often don't have them.”
Camille looked genuinely astonished.
“How did you even get those?”
When I explained that some customer had simply handed them to me today, she refused to believe it, no matter how many times I repeated it.

Meanwhile, while Camille and I discussed the Promica Medals, Luca had already finished helping with the cleanup. Sitting by herself, she was completely absorbed in the freshly purchased volume of Yume-Koi.
“Allen, when do you think you'll be able to get the next volume of Yume-Koi?”
