Chapter 21: First Time Business
Even in the world of Asphial, just like in Japan, special occasions are announced during the day with daytime fireworks—sound fireworks similar to signal shots or ceremonial salutes.
Pop! Pop!
Explosions echoed through the sky, leaving trails of white smoke behind.
With that, the Royal Capital Street Festival officially began. People gathered from all over in search of rare treasures brought from distant places, filling the main avenues throughout the city.
“Welcome! We sell high-quality mineral accessories imported from Irione!”

The Royal Capital Street Festival, which I was participating in for the first time, was blessed with clear weather, and crowds had already begun arriving since early morning.
Even the normally quiet Western District was bustling with noise and excitement, creating an atmosphere truly worthy of being called a festival.

As expected, being this close to the Central District means most of the customers are people from the upper classes...
The stall I had been assigned in Area 13 was relatively close to the Central District, so many of the surrounding stalls were selling goods of correspondingly high quality. The customers visiting Area 13 were also dressed quite elegantly. While they weren't necessarily the elite who lived in the Central District itself, they clearly belonged to a wealthy social class.
On the other hand, that also meant that stalls without a certain level of prestige would simply be ignored. There were also fewer visitors here than in areas like Area 1, so I absolutely had to make the most of the limited opportunities available.
They said the festival really gets going in the evening and at night, but there are already quite a lot of people here. Or maybe this is just normal for the capital?

My stall resembled the kind you'd see at a Japanese festival. Eye-catching products were displayed at the front, while smaller items lined the walls on either side.
Most of what I'd brought this time were consumable products, such as chocolate candies and traditional Japanese snacks that I had previously failed to sell in Erakton. I had also brought some books like Yume-Koi just in case, though I planned to be selective about who I sold those to.
I even brought some TCGs, but will these actually sell?
To be honest, books were bulky, so I wasn't particularly eager for them to sell.

The item I had brought mainly out of curiosity was a Trading Card Game.
In this world of Asphial, there were many reincarnated and transported individuals like me and Saioji, so things like chess and playing cards already existed.

Unlike ordinary citizens, whose interests centered around alcohol, gambling, and brothels, the upper classes had widely embraced board games such as chess and card games, making them fairly well-known.
Because of that, I had brought something that could be considered the ancestor of trading card games: M*G, originally developed by an American mathematician.
It had taken some effort, but I had opened the original packaging and repackaged the cards into booster packs similar to Japanese New Year's gift packs. I had also prepared starter decks and instruction booklets so players could begin immediately.
Why did I choose M*G? Because it seemed like it would fit this world somehow. To be honest, I'd never really played these types of games myself, but they were easy to transport, and if they became popular, they could make a fortune.
If buyers responded favorably, I planned to introduce other famous Japanese trading card games like Y*-Gi-Oh! and Duel Ma*ters in the future.
A single booster pack was priced at 3,000 Gold. A starter deck cost 30,000 Gold. Even I thought those prices were pretty outrageous, but considering the artwork alone, I felt they were still relatively cheap.

“It isn't selling at all...”
Several hours had passed since the festival began. It was now around lunchtime, and my stall was so deserted that it might as well have had crickets chirping.
A few chocolate snacks had sold, but since the customers here weren't the sort to eat on the spot, I couldn't see their reactions, which was a little disappointing.
Perhaps my merchandise was simply too unconventional. Instead of viewing it as interesting, people seemed to find it suspicious and avoided approaching my stall altogether.
Well, the festival is held once a week. Maybe next time I'll set up shop somewhere in the middle-tier areas.
Even if the busiest time was supposed to be in the evening, having only a handful of visitors before noon was a bit concerning. Looking around, the other stalls weren't drawing massive lines, but they at least had a steady stream of people browsing. That only highlighted just how little attention my stall was receiving.

Well, I guess it's unrealistic to expect an amateur to suddenly start a business and succeed...
In terms of product quality and rarity, I was confident my merchandise ranked among the best not only in the royal capital but perhaps in the entire world of Asphial. After all, these were products proudly bearing the label Made in Japan. No matter how fantastical this world was, a civilization operating at roughly a medieval European level simply couldn't compete.

Honestly, I felt like packing up the stall already and spending the day looking around instead. However, Luca and the others were supposed to arrive around the evening.
Oh well. If nothing sells, I can just give the leftovers to Luca and the others as presents.
Thinking that, I prepared myself for the afternoon session.
