Chapter 20: Royal Capital Street Festival
“Alright, preparations complete.”
With all the support I had received from Chairman Ryugen, I had effectively achieved part of my original goal of becoming rich.
Having a residence in a prime urban location and several million yen a month to spend freely would absolutely qualify as being wealthy by the standards of someone like me, who came from an ordinary family.
However, this was money given to me by someone else, so I couldn't afford to become complacent. My goal was to become rich, yes—but I wanted a foundation built on money I could earn through my own abilities.
Ideally, I'd own my own shop, make a fortune through my own efforts, and then retire comfortably while hiring others to handle the work in my old age.

That's exactly why I couldn't neglect Asphial just because I now had a stable life in Japan. Simply carrying out Saioji's requests wouldn't move me forward.
“Allen! The permit for that stall you were talking about arrived!”

I heard Luca's voice coming from the first-floor lobby.
“Here.”
“Thanks.”
A week had passed since we arrived in the royal capital.

Unlike Erakton, the capital city of the Kingdom of Cainliese, Leinburg, constantly received visitors from outside. It was always crowded, and even at night, there were plenty of people walking the main streets.
Now that the move was finished, many members left the team house during the day to pursue their own activities. According to Saioji, however, serious adventurer activities would have to wait a little longer. That said, many team members still spent their time hunting monsters around the capital or conducting training sessions. As a result, the first-floor lobby that had once been packed with members when we first arrived had become surprisingly quiet.
Even so, not everyone left the team house. A few people were always stationed there for security purposes. One of them was Luca, who had shared night watch duty with me during the journey to the capital. She was today's guard and looked thoroughly bored while manning the reception desk.
“West Main Street, Area 13-2? That's practically next to the noble district. Doesn't that make things harder?”

“No, that's exactly where I wanted it. Most of the goods I'm bringing are aimed at nobles anyway.”
Once a week, on the kingdom's equivalent of Sunday, the capital held a massive street market festival. The broad avenues running straight through the city in the four cardinal directions became filled with temporary stalls. Ordinarily, those streets were occupied by established merchant houses, but during the festival, traveling merchants from all over the world were allowed to set up shop and sell their wares. As a result, merchants traveled great distances to bring rare and unusual goods specifically for the event.

In most cities, such a festival might only occur a few times per year. In the royal capital, however, it happened every single week—a testament to the city's prosperity.
“This will be my first time visiting the capital's market festival too. Tomorrow, everyone and I will stop by your stall.”
“Thanks. I'll make sure to have the latest volume of Yume-Koi ready—the one you've all been waiting for.”
“Really!? Then we're definitely coming!”
Since I had already submitted my application to open a stall, I breathed a sigh of relief when I learned that my permit had been approved.
The capital was divided into five major districts, each with its own distinctive character. For example, the South District—where the Dawnmoon Brigade's team house was located—was known as the adventurers' quarter. It contained numerous workshops and inns and was constantly bustling with activity.

Because so many outsiders visited, it also had the worst public security in the city. At the same time, it was arguably the most vibrant district.
The location assigned to me was West Main Street, Area 13-2. That placed me in the 13th zone of the West District.
Unlike the South District, the West District was home to long-established merchant houses that had been conducting business in the capital for generations.
The city also used an interesting numbering system. Lots farther from the city center were numbered lower, beginning with Area 1, while lots closer to the Central District received higher numbers up to 15. Since my location was Area 13, it was quite close to the center.
At the heart of Leinburg stood the magnificent white castle Heinliese, surrounded by a specially designated district. This Special District functioned much like Nagatachō in modern Japan—the political center where nobles and government officials resided.
Unlike the other districts, it was separated by walls. The place truly felt like a different world. Not only nobles but also renowned scholars and the owners of major merchant houses lived there, so the area was filled with sprawling mansions standing far apart from one another. It was, in every sense, a luxury residential district in another world.

Because of this layout, businesses located closer to the Special District generally belonged to merchants with higher social standing and greater influence.
The same held true during the market festival. The closer a location was to the Special District, the more likely it was that expensive and rare products would be sold there.

Thus, Areas 1 through 7 primarily catered to ordinary citizens, while Areas 7 and beyond were dominated by luxury goods aimed at the wealthy elite of the capital.
Some nobles even visit the festival near the Special District in disguise... If I could attract a few of them as regular customers, it would be a tremendous success...
As for the other districts, the East District was known for entertainment, gambling halls, and brothels, much like the districts I had seen in Erakton. The North District was known as the Student District and contained national research institutes, military academies, and magic schools. It had little relevance to me at the moment.
Viewed from that perspective, obtaining a stall in the 13th Area of West Main Street, close to the Special District and surrounded by influential merchant houses, was almost exactly the outcome I had hoped for.
