Chapter 19: Changing Daily Life
“Ehhh...”
The very first place I arrived in when I came to the world containing Earth was a wooded area on land owned by Grandpa Genji.
A short walk from there led to Akane Village, a place that looked as though it had been left behind by time itself. Mountains, more mountains, fields, rice paddies—the very image of a classic Japanese countryside stretched in every direction.
But after the whole Saioji incident, the stage had changed completely. Now, I was standing on the top floor of a skyscraper-like luxury apartment building so tall that I couldn't even tell how many floors it had. Stepping out onto a balcony large enough to host a barbecue, I saw a brilliant blue sky overhead. Looking down, countless buildings filled the cityscape, while wide multilane roads wound between them, packed with cars.
In the distance, I could even see the sea. From my current location, I had a clear view of Tokyo Bay—a truly prime piece of real estate in the heart of the city.

“Allen-sama, lunch is ready.”
In the largest room of the apartment—so spacious that it almost seemed suitable for exercise—moving company workers were carrying in enormous pieces of furniture.

As I stared blankly at the scene, Akira suddenly addressed me from behind in an unnecessarily formal manner. She was now dressed in a butler's uniform.

“You really don't have to be so formal, Akira-san... You can talk to me the way you used to.”
“No, that won't do.”

Her long hair, which reached down to her waist, was loosely tied back. Since she had always been the cool, mature type, she somehow looked remarkably natural even in a men's butler uniform. Honestly, if she were holding an assault rifle while smoking a cigarette, the image would probably suit her perfectly.
When I first met her in Akane Village, she had given off the impression of a lethargic, unmotivated woman. The Akira standing before me now was nothing like that. Her sharp eyes were filled with determination, and every movement she made was crisp and efficient. The contrast was still hard to get used to.
After I delivered photographs of Saioji, a group photo of her adventurer team, and—even on my own initiative—a video of her working through paperwork from afar, the reaction from the Saioji Group changed dramatically. Akira was perhaps the person whose attitude changed the most.
Apparently, she had cared for Shizuku since childhood, making her feelings toward her stronger than anyone else's. Well, considering she had gone from being a household servant to an elite bodyguard after Shizuku's disappearance, I could understand that.

“If entertainment is scarce in Asphial, it would probably be best to prioritize sending the manga and anime that Lady Shizuku liked. Physical copies would take up too much space, so compiling everything as e-books would be preferable...”
“So nowadays you can read manga and watch anime on a smartphone? What an age we live in.”

Although Akira had effectively become my attendant, her loyalty wasn't really directed at me. It was directed through me toward Shizuku in the other world. That was only natural, so I didn't mind.
In fact, watching a cool, charismatic woman—someone who would probably be popular with other women—rest her hand on her chin while seriously pondering gifts for someone she viewed almost like a younger sister was strangely heartwarming.
Personally, I had always assumed that obtaining a legal identity would be necessary if I wanted to live and work in Japan. In movies and novels, people usually solved that problem by asking underworld figures to forge documents for them. In reality, I had no such connections. To be honest, I had been completely at a loss.
However, after meeting Chairman Ryugen through Saioji, the problem of my family registry and legal identity was resolved almost immediately.
...I never saw this much money even in my previous life.
As the sole means of communication with his beloved daughter Shizuku, I received extraordinary support from Chairman Ryugen. He arranged everything necessary to make life in Japan easier for me—legal identity documents, housing, a mobile phone, operating funds, and more.

The bank account that had somehow been prepared for me contained hundreds of times more money than I had ever possessed in my previous life as Shinjo Masato. On top of that, I was given a black card—a credit card completely unrelated to ordinary citizens. Its spending limit was supposedly unlimited.
...Honestly, being given this much made me uncomfortable.
All I had wanted was a legal identity. After that, I figured I'd get a part-time job or import precious metals from Asphial and sell them.
But thanks to Chairman Ryugen's intervention, those plans became unnecessary. If anything, my living conditions on Earth now might be better than they were in Asphial.
Of course, receiving such enormous support came with conditions.
The first condition was to support Saioji Shizuku in Asphial as much as possible. That meant continuing to deliver entertainment, books, and daily necessities. In other words, I had effectively become an interdimensional courier.

The second condition was to assist with research into my skill, Interworld Travel. The project had not yet begun, but once preparations were complete, I would periodically visit a top-secret research facility operated by the Saioji Group and summon the Moon Gate for study. This also included supplying mysterious materials obtained from Asphial.
Just one Shocklight Stone was worth several million yen...

As a test, I had previously sent over one of the strange minerals that emitted light when struck—the same type used during our journey to the royal capital. Through Akira, I had delivered it to the Saioji Group. Not long afterward, I received absurdly long emails from the group's researchers. According to them, the stone was composed of particles unlike any known element on Earth. Its atomic structure—or something resembling one—formed a completely unknown material.
At that point, the discussion had entered territory far beyond the understanding of an ordinary high-school graduate like me. When it came to researching Asphial's mysterious materials, it was probably best to leave things to the professionals.
