Chapter 13: Arrived at the Royal Capital
The journey to the royal capital was fairly enjoyable, thanks to becoming friends with the brigade members who had shared night-watch duty with me. Normally, traveling in a world overrun with monsters was an extremely dangerous undertaking.
At the very least, the wilderness was no place for ordinary civilians with no combat experience. If someone needed to travel a long distance for whatever reason, it was common to pay a large sum to hire adventurers as escorts.
Even with such precautions, danger was always present. A powerful monster might have settled along the road, bandits could attack, or the adventurers hired as guards might secretly be involved in criminal activities. Complete peace of mind was impossible.
Given all that, I felt I had ventured into the wilderness under the best possible circumstances.
Around me was an exceptional group of adventurers that had taken the royal capital by storm in recent years. They were high-ranking adventurers capable of defeating the monsters that appeared around the capital almost effortlessly.

The Dawnmoon Brigade was the kind of adventurer team normally employed by great nobles. For an ordinary citizen like me to travel to the royal capital alongside them was undeniably a stroke of luck.
“It's the continuation of Yume-Koi!!”

“...Just be careful with it, okay? It's still something Captain lent to us.”
Although there was a difference between men and women, the number of tents available was limited, so even I, being male, ended up sleeping under the same tent as the female members.
At first, I was so nervous that I could barely sleep, but after lending out the Yume-Koi manga volumes as part of my research, I became friends with a few of the members—especially Camille. As a result, sharing a tent with women no longer bothered me that much.
Tonight, I wasn't assigned to night-watch duty, so I was preparing to sleep normally inside the camp tent. At the center of the tent's ceiling hung a lamp made from a mineral widely used in this world called a Shocklight Stone, which emitted light when struck.

Sleeping bags were arranged along the edges of the tent in a square formation, and in the center lay the item I had borrowed that morning from Saioji, the owner of Yume-Koi Volume 2.
Inside the tent were four people in total: Camille the mage, Luca and Aida, both warrior-types, and myself. We were the same group that had shared watch duty on our first night after departing Erakton.
Lazuli, the archer, was assigned to another group due to her role and wasn't present.
“Waaah!!”

If it means gaining another fan...—with the spirit of a true fan, Saioji, the current owner, had gladly lent us Yume-Koi Volume 2. Among us, Camille had been the one most eager to read the continuation. Holding the book in both hands, she lifted it toward the glowing Shocklight lamp to admire the cover illustration.
If they're this happy about it, maybe I should buy copies for communal use...

Excluding Saioji, who, as the brigade captain, naturally wanted a personal collection, I wondered whether it might not be a bad idea to supply Yume-Koi as shared property for the Dawnmoon Brigade. It could help me get closer to the other members, whose sense of distance I still couldn't quite gauge.
Judging from the reactions of Camille, Luca, and Aida, Japanese manga seemed to appeal even to the sensibilities of this world. I was beginning to think it might be worth consulting Saioji, who was knowledgeable about pop culture, and Kida, the part-time bookstore employee, about buying other series as well.
Well, maybe I was being too easily won over, but as a man, seeing women happy was simply gratifying.
The royal capital of the Kingdom of Cainliese, Leinburg, was the largest city in the nation. Each of its eastern, western, northern, and southern districts possessed its own unique character. At the center stood the enormous white castle Heinliese, overlooking the entire capital.
Leinburg consisted of five districts: the North District, South District, East District, West District, and Central District. The place we had arrived at was the South District.
“The new team house is already prepared. Go to your assigned rooms and confirm everything. Members planning to visit their families will have additional instructions, so gather around Vice Captain Laphine. That's all.”

“Yes!”
As soon as the members responded in unison to Saioji's announcement, the group dispersed. Even within the South District, where adventurers from all over gathered, the team house purchased by the Dawnmoon Brigade occupied an exceptionally desirable location. It was a massive building, large enough to comfortably house all thirty members.
The Brigade's team house resembled a mixed-use apartment building, with facilities similar to convenience stores or supermarkets on the ground floor. The first floor contained communal areas such as a lobby, dining hall, and bathhouse. The upper floors, beginning from the second floor, were composed of private rooms belonging to individual members. Even I, whose membership had been decided at the last minute, had been assigned a room on the third floor, closest to the staircase.
“As expected of the royal capital. There are incredible buildings everywhere.”
Not only was the giant castle Heinliese, which overlooked the city, impressive, but despite the world's overall technological level resembling medieval Europe, magic and various mysterious substances existed in abundance. As a result, large cities contained many awe-inspiring monumental structures.
Naturally, enormous buildings on the scale of the Dawnmoon Brigade's team house were rare, but even so, there seemed to be an abundance of tall buildings that felt strangely out of place for a medieval-European-style world.
